Joseph Ireland was a member of the American Institute of Architects from December 1864 to February 1873. He became a Fellow in 1870. His address is given in the membership lists as National Bank, Cleveland, Ohio, in 1871, and as 5 Cushing's Building, Cleveland, Ohio, in 1872 and 1873. Earlier membership lists give only the city.
His name appears in the cumulative list of members that was published in 1880, without any indication of lapse, but the lapsed date is added in the next list, dated 1882. If he had been an active member in 1880, the entry should have shown the lapse date and the rejoin date—so the 1880 list is probably an error that was subsequently corrected.
There is no further information on him in the membership files, nor in the incoming correspondence for the period of his membership.
