      David W. Gibbs joined The American Institute of Architects as a Fellow in 1879. The AIA Archives does not have his application, nor do the Board minutes say who proposed him for membership. The Archives does have two letters from him concerning his membership status. The board had put off a decision on his application for two successive meetings, once with no explanation (they had a lot of other business) and then for lack of a quorum. He was approved for membership on June 12, 1879. He remained a member until his death.
