Charles Willard Moore, renowned architect, writer of numerous articles and books, and teacher, was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan in 1925. He earned a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (1947), and Master of Fine Art and Doctoral Degrees from Princeton University by 1957. His academic posts include serving as Dean, Chairman, and faculty member at five different universities, including the University of California at Berkeley, Yale University, and The University of Texas at Austin. A prolific architect, Moore completed 180 commissions, and served as principal architect in firms in California, Connecticut, and Texas. Two of his most noted, collaborative works include the Sea Ranch, a recreational community near San Francisco, built in the 1960s, and the design of the Kresge College at the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1973.

The Charles Moore Archives, 1965-1992
The unprocessed Charles Moore Collection, housed at the Alexander Architectural Archive at The University of Texas at Austin, consists of photographic materials, slides, drawings, models, and freestanding columns. In addition, the staff at the Architecture and Planning Library and University of Texas Libraries is cataloging and making available to the university community over 5,000 architectural monographs, exhibition catalogs, and works of fiction that formed the architect's personal library, housed at the Charles Moore House in Austin, Texas.
