Wendell Campbell received an AIA Medal in 1976, awarded in honor of the late Whitney M. Young, Jr. His medal file contains Campbell's nomination with information about the founding of the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA), and a press release and photo of receiving the AIA Medal. The AIA combined a number of earlier awards, including the Whitney M. Young Jr. Citation, into the AIA Medals award program in 1976. The Whitney M. Young Jr. Award was reestablished as a separate award in 1980. Although Wendell Campbell received an AIA Medal, he is included in the list of recipients of the Whitney M. Young Jr. Award.
