    Between 1889 and 1898, the AIA had only one category of membership, called Fellow. When William E. Higginbotham originally joined, he was automatically a Fellow. However, when he rejoined in 1922, Fellowship was an honorary distinction, and he rejoined as an ordinary member but not a Fellow.
