Professor, architect, and founder of the program in Architecture at North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (1920-1955). Ross Edward Shumaker was hired as an associate professor of Architecture in the Department of Engineering (1920). By 1921 Architectural Engineering became a separate curriculum under Shumaker's direction. Shumaker also designed many of the buildings at North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering, including: Alexander (1939), Becton (1939), Broughton - Diesel Wing (1943), Remodeled the kitchen in the Chancellor's Residence (1944), Clark Infirmary (1940), David Clark Lab (1939), Laundry (1940), East Balconies of Leazer (1945), Morris (1926), Renovations of Patterson (1930 and 1940), Riddick - Annex (1941), Renovations of Tompkins (1939), and Turlington (1939).
