The American Institute of Architects Archives
      G. W. Bullard joined the Western Association of Architects in 1884, and thus became a member of the AIA on the merger of the two organizations in 1889. The membership list that was published with the proceedings of the November, 1889 convention shows G. W. Bullard and S. A. Bullard at the same address in Springfield, Illinois. In the published proceedings of the October, 1890, convention, G. W. Bullard has an address of Tacoma, Washington. S. A. Bullard remained in Springfield. G. W. Bullard's membership lapsed in 1899. He was still in Tacoma.
In 1903, George Wesley Bullard of Tacoma applied for membership in the AIA (scan of 1903 application) and was rejected. It looks as though it ought to be the same person given the location and age, but it doesn't indicate on the application that this is a readmission and it is puzzling as to why he was rejected if he had previously been a member. The AIA Archives contains no further evidence to solve the mystery.
