James Freret (1838-1897), nephew of New Orleans mayor William Freret and cousin of architect William A. Freret (1833-1881), was one of the city's most prolific 19th-century architects. He partnered for a brief time with his cousin and went on to independently design the Board of Trade Building and many New Orleans residences.
